Cloud Computing

What is Cloud Computing? Is it a good fit for my business? What are the pros and cons for my business?

The national institute of Science and Technology defines Cloud Computing as delivery of computing as a service rather than a product, whereby shared resources, software, and information are provided to computers and other devices as a utility (like the electricity grid) over a network (typically the Internet).

The Cloud enables your team to work from virtually anywhere, anytime and from any device with an internet connection. This can bring its own challenges and its essential that a business fully understands all the benefits that a cloud solution can bring as well as be made aware of possible changes to working practices and security considerations that need to be in place.

This technology is becoming one of the fastest growing in recent years and these questions are increasingly being asked by businesses of all shapes and sizes. YC are ideally placed to advise clients on the potential options for a cloud based solution, whether you’re looking at a private cloud, hybrid or public cloud. Our team are here to help with the key decisions that need to be taken before a business can answer the question is the cloud right for me?

YC can explain the various options and can deliver everything from a full private cloud solution or perhaps a hybrid solution where a client retains an element of infrastructure and services on premise. It may be that a gradual migration of services to the cloud is in order, YC are ideally placed to work in partnership with our clients of all sizes to plan over the longer term for this migration.

A common request is our cloud based DR solution where we replicate your internal infrastructure to the cloud to provide for offsite disaster recovery and then take advantage of our workplace recovery services. We have found a number of clients have used this as a pre-cursor to full adoption of the cloud as it provides a stepping stone to its full adoption and the client can test their own infrastructure in this environment. After migration to a full cloud solution we would simply replicate the network to one of our other data centre facilities.

Our experts offer fully impartial advice, being a full service IT company we have a realistic approach to the cloud and recognise its not a best fit for many of our clients at this moment in time. All our advice is given in simple to understand terms and is based upon our extensive experience in this field.
